Day 22: Mon 17 Jul 23 - Yeppoon

Mon 17 Jul 23 - Yeppoon

Weather: 16 Deg, light SE winds and early showers becoming partly cloudy, reaching 22 Deg and winds increasing to between 25 and 45 km/hr in the evening.

Noel slept a little better last night (therefore, so did I), but I convinced her to make an appointment to see a doctor today. We've both been doing RAT tests every 3 days as a requirement before visiting Uncle (although Noel hasn't been visiting), and we know it's not Covid. We went for a mid morning walk down the street and along the beach to our new favourite beachside cafe. It was cloudy and the SE wind blowing onshore was more brisk than it has been. We walked back to Yeppoon Plaza where Noel made a booking to see a doctor - appointment for 2.30pm. We then walked back to the van to retrieve the car, and went hunting for shoes for uncle - who would have thought such a task would be so difficult - swollen feet, and no feeling in his toes. He wants something he can slip into using a shoe horn. He can't bend down to do up shoelaces or velcro. He can't wear socks so they can't have any rough edges or rub points. So far, we've purchased 3 different pairs of shoes, and returned all 3. The hunt continues tomorrow. Lunch was back at the van, then Noel and I starting planning our trip beyond Yeppoon. We decided we will leave Yeppoon three days earlier for Mackay on Fri 28. We booked 5 nights at Andergrove then we will head out to near Finch Hatton Gorge on a property for 4 nights. It was then time for Noel to head off to see the Dr, meanwhile, I rode along the old rail trail to visit Uncle for 1.5 hrs (timing my visit to coincide with the tea lady coming around so we have a cup of tea together). After my visit I returned to the van where Noel gave me the Doctors diagnosis - whatever she has is viral, and she just needs to ride it out. At 4.30, I set off for another walk to return the 3rd pair of shoes and get a refund, then back to the van for dinner (a large and tasty piece of snapper purchased from Rosslyn Bay Seafood yesterday, and for Noel Chicken Kiev cooked in the Air Fryer, both with salad). Another day done and dusted, and gone way too fast. I did think about logging on to do some reserve work this morning, but the urge disappeared as quick as the thought of doing it appeared. The days are going way too quick for work anyway.

Yeppoon Rail Trail. Rail traffic to Yeppoon began in 1910, and the biggest single user was the pineapple industry and other farm produce. Dad and Uncle use to have their citrus, banana and paw paw harvests transported to markets by rail from Yeppoon. The last passenger service was in 1978, and the line was eventually closed in 2004.

Information about the local pineapple industry. Hundreds of these large wooden crates packed full of beautiful fresh pineapples lining the Railway is a familiar memory of mine growing up in the area.
